Our students recognise that they have a role in serving their immediate communities with their time, skills and talents.
Students in Our Lady of Sion School are building strong and lasting relationships with the residents of local Nursing Homes.
This project is being driven by our young people and it is delightful to observe them forging such strong links with the residents through chatting together, offering musical performances and reading poetry.
In the Junior School, the children regularly visit the residents of neighbouring St Mary’s Care Home, sharing stories, songs and pictures. The children have built wonderful friendships during these sessions and their visits are much appreciated by the residents. When the children are unable to visit, they send letters and pictures for St Mary’s to enjoy.
In the Senior School, a group of our children spend time after school talking with senior citizens of local care homes and sharing their experiences of the school day. Relationships develop and friendships are deepening as our students interact so effectively with the residents. They pick up on previous conversations and, of course, they hear great wisdom from them too.
