Nursery FAQs

From what age can my child start?

Children can start in our Early Years room from age 3. Children usually then join the Reception Class, full-time in the September after their fourth birthday.

When is the Nursery open?

Sion Nursery is open five days a week but is a term-time only childcare setting, following the same terms as our main schools (See our Term dates here)

What do I do for childcare in the school holidays?

There is a holiday club available for school holidays. (Bookable in advance)

How many days per week does my child need to attend?

There is no minimum requirement for quantity of sessions per week in Early Years. You can have as many or as few sessions per week as suits your family life. Most families chose to use three sessions per week to make good use of their government funded hours. When they join Reception Class (after their fourth birthday), children are expected to attend 08.30am – 3.30pm five days per week.

Is there any before/after-school care for Reception Class?

Yes, your child can stay until 5.00pm Monday to Friday. We are here to support you with wrap-around care which works around your needs. (Additional fees apply for wraparound care)

Are lunch and snacks included in the fees?

Parents may provide a packed lunch or alternatively a hot meal from ‘Plant Based School Kitchen’ can be ordered in advance and paid for directly with them. We ask all parents to provide a piece of fruit either per day, or in a bigger quantity at the beginning of each week.

Is there a Sion Nursery School Uniform?

The wearing of uniform is not mandatory for Pre-school children, though it is welcomed if preferred. Uniform is then mandatory from Reception class onwards.

Can I use my 15 hours government funding?

Yes, tax free childcare payments can be used for any billable hours for pupils under compulsory school age.

My child still has an afternoon nap, are you able to facilitate this?

We provide opportunities for ‘down time’ and a quiet area for a sleep. This will be discussed during our welcome meeting and will be tailored to your child’s needs.

Does my child need to be potty trained?

It is not a requirement for your child to be fully potty trained before joining us. We have a dedicated area with facilities to provide personal care, the only thing we ask is that you provide nappies and wipes if required.
