Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Pastoral Care at Sion School

At Sion, we care about our students, our staff, and the special community we all share. We cherish the culture where relationships flourish and where children are allowed to be children for a little bit longer. As a small school with big expectations, we know each member of our community deeply, and that understanding shapes everything we do.

What Our Community Says

The impact of our care is best expressed in the words of those who experience it every day. One parent shared:

“We often talk about how grateful we have been to have Sion in our lives. It’s so rare to have a strong academic school and a caring environment.”

Another reflected:

“At parents’ evening we were blown away. Teachers understand our son, support him, and recognise his strengths. Finding Sion has changed his life and that of our family.”

And from one of our students:

“Thank you for everything Sion has brought me. Without your support, I would have struggled to overcome tough times. Now I feel confident I can go further, knowing I will always have you to fall back on.”

Knowing and Supporting Every Child

We know our children well and are attentive to anything that might be concerning. Our staff share their observations with our pastoral team, who respond with appropriate actions, advice, and follow-up.

Form Tutors and Class Teachers provide daily care and support, while our Mental Health First Aiders and Pastoral Leads offer more intensive support through dedicated daily clinics. Working closely with families is an essential part of helping each child thrive.

Pastoral care at Sion is much like family life—conversations flow naturally, and students know they are valued, even in their more challenging moments. Teenage years can be complex, but our reliable pastoral care, non-judgemental guidance, and genuine support help students navigate life with confidence and resilience  -whatever their age.

Supporting Wellbeing Through Activities

Our extensive extra-curricular programme is central to our wellbeing provision, offering a wide range of activities that promote physical and mental health.

Our Personal Development programme is regularly reviewed to ensure students engage with lessons that prepare them for life beyond the classroom, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to stay healthy, resilient, and confident.

Listening to Student Voices

We value the perspectives of our students through initiatives like the Student Council and the What Matters programme. These platforms give students a voice in shaping school development, ensuring their experiences guide our decisions.

Safeguarding and External Partnerships

Sion works with external partners to enhance our safeguarding provision. These collaborations help educate students on important topics such as online safety, drugs and alcohol, and exploitation, ensuring they are well-informed and supported in a safe environment.

Our Ethos

At Sion, pastoral care is at the heart of our ethos and values. Education extends beyond academics—it encompasses the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of every child. By fostering strong relationships, offering personalised guidance, and creating a compassionate environment, we empower our students to flourish in all aspects of life.
