Physical Education at Our Lady of Sion School encourages a sense of fair play, sportsmanship and consideration, along with a positive attitude towards leading an active healthy lifestyle. We want the students to develop, improve and reach their full potential as an individual. We encourage students to join local clubs to extend their sporting prowess at a higher level.
Our PE Department plays a very active part of Our Lady of Sion School. As well as their compulsory PE lessons, students have the opportunity to participate in lots of sports activities, teams and after-school clubs. All our lessons are co-ed.
All students have PE lessons as part of their regular weekly activities; Years 7, 8 and 9 students have four periods per week and will follow a curriculum in Football, Netball, Bastketball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Fitness, Athletics, Rounders and Tennis. These activities are all on site in Key Stage 3 with the exception of swimming in Year 8; Years 10 and 11 have three periods a week and the Sixth Form have one afternoon per week. Squash, Badminton and Trampolining are added to the KS3 activities. Some activities take place off-site using local facilities such as Worthing Leisure Centre and Splashpoint.
In addition, PE is offered as an optional subject at GCSE and A level.
Sports offered to pupils are: athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, fitness, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rounders, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball; pupils will have the opportunity to take part in all these sports at some stage in their school career. Other activities, such as outdoor pursuits, handball and ultimate frisbee are offered as part of the School’s enrichment programme.
