Learning to be part of a community begins in Nursery. A short group time in both the morning and the afternoon sessions is where we model and encourage good communication skills and support children’s growth in self- confidence and self-awareness.
In Nursery, the Prime Areas of learning; Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development form the core of what we do. Successfully engaging in these areas gives the children a firm foundation on which to build and an ability to access a broader curriculum. Topics sparked by the children’s individual interests and passions are reflected in the environment and enrich the activities we offer.
Nursery children also enjoy specialist music sessions and participate in assemblies with the Junior School, and Early Years have their own nativity.
Before your child starts in the Nursery, we invite them to attend taster sessions which gives them the opportunity to become familiar with our nurturing environment.
Moving Up to Reception
When it is time for Nursery children to move up to Reception it is a smooth and seamless process as the children have already developed good relationships with their teachers and are confident in their environment.
Nursery children progressing to Reception spend the last half of the Summer Term eating lunch in the school hall with the current Reception class. This sets anxious minds to rest by the time the new school year begins.
In the Summer Term we have a ‘moving up’ morning where children from our current Nursery class along with those joining us from other settings are invited to spend time in their new class with their teachers.
Parents of new Reception children are invited to an information meeting in the Summer Term prior to their children beginning school.
