February half term: Original Minds’ Circle returns with special music production workshop

Sion Schoo Music computer

Young creators in years 5 – 8 across West Sussex are invited to step inside the mind of a music maker this February, as Sion School hosts its next Original Minds’ Circle (OMC) workshop on 17 February, 10am – 3pm.

This half‑term’s special workshop, Inside the Mind of the Music Maker, will immerse students in the world of music production, songwriting and performance.

The session will be led by Ian Lovatt of Ghost Copy Music, a Brighton‑based music producer, songwriter and artist developer whose career includes work with Jess Glynne, Calum Scott, and Sam Tompkins. Ian will guide participants through hands‑on creative tasks and real industry processes, helping them understand how music is built from the ground up.

Activities will include:

  • Creating and experimenting with sounds using professional‑grade music production tools.
  • Learning how beats, melodies and harmonies are built from scratch.
  • Working in small groups to write, produce or perform parts of an original piece.
  • Seeing how a producer shapes a track, from first idea to finished piece.

It’s a chance for children to try something new in a supportive, imaginative and energising environment, guided by an industry professional.

What is the Original Mind’s Circle at Sion?

The Original Minds’ Circle celebrates young thinkers who question, imagine and innovate, whether their interests lie in music, science, writing, design or big ideas. All participants in this workshop will be invited to become OMC members, receiving:

  • An OMC badge
