We’re delighted to announce a major strategic move: the successful purchase of our entire school site, encompassing both the Senior School and the Junior and Nursery School buildings has been completed, securing our home and safeguarding our future for generations to come.
The acquisition was made possible through the exceptional generosity of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion, the founding order of the school, who enabled the purchase at a significant discount. Their enduring support reflects deep trust in the school’s mission and represents a lasting investment in the education of young people across Worthing and West Sussex.
Our Governing Body played a pivotal role in this achievement, with careful planning and dedicated oversight ensuring the success of the transaction. With the cost of the purchase being substantially lower than projected rental costs over the next five years, the school can redirect resources into enhancing student outcomes and educational provision even further.
“This is a defining moment in the school’s strategic development,” said the Chair of Governors, Katy Henwood. “It secures our independence, strengthens our financial resilience, and allows us to invest more directly in the future of our students. We are deeply grateful to the sisters for their generosity and to all those who have supported this transition.”
This comes at a time of continued academic success for Sion, where student progress shines, reinforcing our reputation as a centre of excellence in independent education.
“These are historic and joyful times for Sion School,” added Headteacher, Steve Jeffery. “We are proud to be building a legacy that will benefit generations to come, and we thank our families, staff, and wider community for their continued trust and support.”
