Sensational turnout for Sion School Open Days

Sion School recently welcomed an incredible number of families to its October Open Days for both Junior and Senior schools, and the atmosphere was filled with an uplifting energy. From the moment visitors stepped through the doors, they were immersed in the warmth, care, and commitment that defines life at SION.

Headteacher, Steve Jeffery, opened each event with a heartfelt message about what makes Sion School unique: a culture rooted in kindness, care, and inclusion. “Our motto, Consideration Always, is more than words on a wall. It’s a way of living,” he explained. This ethos has shaped SION since its founding in 1862 and continues to inspire a community where every child feels valued and supported.

Families explored the school’s vibrant classrooms, facilities, and grounds, guided by staff and students eager to share their experiences. The tours showcased the school’s four pillars, Culture, Connection, Care, and Commitment, which underpin an education that goes far beyond academic achievement. From personalised learning and exceptional pastoral care to opportunities for global collaboration through the Notre Dame de Sion network, visitors saw firsthand how the school nurtures confident, capable young people ready to make a difference.

One prospective parent was particularly struck by the student tour guides, describing them as “incredibly smart, engaging, and excellent ambassadors for your school.”

Reflecting on the visit, they added: “What I loved was that the ethos you talked about was really very much in evidence… you could sense that there was quality and excellence too.”

They also shared their son’s response to the day: “He did not want to leave and said it already felt like home.”

Celebrating recent GCSE results success

Families were pleased to learn about the senior school’s recent results success where 94% of students achieved strong GCSE passes in 2025 and nearly half securing top grades, well above national and West Sussex averages. The results speak volumes about the school’s commitment to excellence. Yet, as the Headteacher reminded guests, what matters most is how students leave SION: knowing themselves, understanding their value, and ready to contribute something special to the world.

As families departed, many expressed excitement about joining a school where relationships thrive, learning is joyful, and every child is encouraged to be their authentic self. The Open Days were a resounding success, and we look forward to welcoming new students into our caring, ambitious community.
