Our Lady of Sion’s Upper Sixth students have achieved outstanding A level results with yet another 100% pass rate. The students and staff have met the challenges head on and worked together to ensure that the A Level success of Sion’s students continues.
78% of our students’ grades were A* – B and over 93% A*- C. The students’ independent learning skills were rewarded with all the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) grades being A* and A. The qualification is particularly valued by Russell Group Universities. Sciences and Mathematics again performed extremely well, with 25% of Biology grades being A*.
Individual students who deserve particular praise include Fraser Bevan who achieved A*A*A and will be reading Dentistry at Cardiff University. Lauren Austen obtained AAA and an A* in her EPQ on setting up permanent habitation on Mars. Lauren will be studying Chemistry at York University. Former Head Boy, Ben Nisbet achieved AAA and A* in his EPQ on the feasibility of geothermal energy sources. Ben will be studying Geophysics at Bristol University. Ed Gilbert achieved four A grades and will be studying Mechanical Engineering at Southampton University.
Dr Orchard, Headmaster, said: “It is important to recognise not only the significant academic success of our students but that they also leave Sion prepared for the next stage of their lives. This is thanks to our wonderful teaching staff and excellent pastoral care. We are not an ‘exam factory’ and want to ensure that our students also have time to develop emotionally through our wellbeing programme.”
