In Reception, we aim to develop a lifelong love of books and of language. Stories are at the heart of our curriculum providing a meaningful, stimulating and imaginative way to engage children in learning.
We have a daily literacy session; phonics and reading form an important part of our session along with writing and letter formation. We use Letters and Sounds, a programme recommended by the Department for Education. Daily, we revise what we know, we learn something new and we learn to apply it by practising! Enjoyment is the key to success, we know that learning always follows it and so we aim to have as much fun as we can whilst learning these important skills.
In addition to this, we use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme and read with the children individually every day. We aim to teach fluency, accuracy and understanding.
Fun Clever Hands activities are practised each day to develop muscles that help children to develop a good pencil grip and excellent hand control, vital as they begin their writing journey.
