Our Year 12 Geography students visited Field Studies Council Centre at Betws-y-Coed for four nights at the end of September. Their work included a day studying the upper section of the River Conwy, which forms part of their A level module exam in January. The students got stuck in to their work and their understanding of the dynamics of the river became much clearer; especially for those whose boots filled with refreshing moorland water! The second day saw them travelling through the delightfully picturesque settlement of Blaenau Ffestiniog and onwards to Harlech to study the sand dune ecosystem. The highlight of the day was tea and cake in a cafe adjacent to the magnificent castle. Their final working day was a settlement study along the Conwy valley, ending at Llandudno and a trip up the Great Orme on the tram. The views were stunning and Blackpool Tower could just be made out 46 miles away.
