The Year 10 Basketball team played their final game in the league, against Shoreham Academy on Thursday 17th March. Although the other team were much taller, they were not a match for our team's athleticism and superior scoring; the final score was 34-12 to Sion. All our team played well and scored points, but special mentions got to top scorer Amelia Watson with 14 points, and to Grace Turner with 10 points. Well done all of them!

Four teams of pupils from years 3 & 4 at Our Lady of Sion Junior School children took part in the 'Tennis Sussex' mini tennis event at St Bede's Prep School in Eastbourne on Friday 11th March. The children played on specially marked out mini tennis courts in the sports hall. They played a total of 74 short matches; it was a very busy day!
The boy's 'A' team finished in third place (bronze). They played very well and missed a place in the final by just one point.
The girl's 'A' team, all from year 4, finished in second place and returned with silver medals. The photo below shows the team members: (l. to r.) Isabella D'Ademo, Gigi Casey, Molly Johnston & Olivia Moore

All the children had an enjoyable day and are looking forward to practicing their new tennis skills in the summer term. Well done to all of them! The photo above shows them all outside St Bede's School.
West Sussex Gymnastics Competition
On Wednesday 9th March, we entered a team in the West Sussex Gymnastics competition. We entered all four sections and came third overall which is a fantastic result, considering that none of our girls belong to gymnastics clubs outside school.
The group floor and pair floor sections were very competitive and had 10 schools in each section. Our girls performed very well. A special mention to Tamsin Varty who had stitches removed from her eye that morning. Without her determination to perform we would not have come third overall!
The pair appartus section was performed by Ziona Juer and Abigail Kemp Potter. They were placed second in their section and received certificates.
The group floor section was performed by Faye Murton, Heather Mc Clumpha, Mai Li Knowles, Bethlyn Kennard, Bella Yogaratnum and Megan Johnson. They were also placed second, which is a very commendable result for a year 7 group.
Well done to all of them; a great achievement. Congratulations to all the girls, and to Mrs. House for her coaching.

Rugby
The Under-15 team played in the County Rugby 7's tournament held at Christ's Hospital. The team had a great start scoring 7 tries in their first game and building in confidence. Sion won two games and lost two games in the opening stages which gave them qualification to play in the semi finals, due to their high scores. They had to play the home team, Christs Hospital which turned out to be an excellent game. Christs Hospital took the lead but Sion stormed back into the game. The Sion captain, Harry Forrest went off injured with Sion losing 4 tries to 2. James Mapley, made a break and had to run 80 metres being chased by the opposition to make the score 4-3, but unfortunately time run out and the game finished with a very respectable score. Well played boys.

Two teams made up from players in years 8, 10 and 12 competed against St Andrews in two very close games. The first game was close with Sion having more shots, but too many were missed. The St Andrews team made the most of the Sion mistakes and went on to win the game 9-8
The second game was almost identical to the first, but this time St Andrews made the mistakes and Sion used their errors to score. Some amazing shots from Ollie Foreman made the game, with Martyn Swift scoring two 3 pointers. Sion won the game 12-11 Well played.

In this live televised event Georgie Searle competed in the Under-13 event and finished175th out of the 305 who managed to finish the course. This is a very good performance in Georgie’s first season of competition.
Abi Fowlie competed in the Under-20 women’s event, which also doubled up as the selection race for the World Cross Country Championships, where those who compete are seeking to gain selection to run for Great Britain. Abi started well and finished a richly deserved 30th, against a highly competitive field. Well done to both girls on their performances. The Year 8 & 9 team with their medals
In the Year 9 section, the team had to play The Towers in the semi. Despite a shaky start, the shots started to go in, and they won 5-1.
Angmering beat Steyning by one goal in the other semi, so we expected a tight final, as we had lost to them in an earlier round. The score went goal for goal; both teams were playing too fast and benefiting from each other’s mistakes. With just 30 seconds to go Sion went ahead and held the lead at the final whistle. 7-6.

Junior School Year 3 Festival of Sporting Fun
On Wednesday 9th February, some Junior School Year 3 girls were invited to 'A Festival of Sporting Fun' organised by Windlesham School. The format of the afternoon was just lots of team games incorporating netball skills plus a shooting section with low goals and lots of jollying along followed by a match tea. Just four girls from Year 3 took part and we joined up with Broadwater Manor to make a team of 10. This meant that the participating teams of Sompting Abbotts, Prebendal and Windlesham all had equal numbers. There were ten games in total which involved hoops, cones and balls and required stamina, accuracy, running and observation skills. Volcanoes and Craters was popular along with Pass and Pivot, Tunnel Ball and Round and Round. The event ending up with a team shooting competition. When all the points were added up, Sion/Broadwater Manor tied in first place with Windlesham and the girls had a lovely experience. To see more photos go to Junior School Photo Galleries

Abigael Fowlie came 11th in the U-20 Womens' race, which was an excellent achievment, as she fell in the first lap, so had a lot of catching up to do. The competition was very fierce at this standard, and although Abi was 11th, she was only 10 seconds behind the 7th placed runner.
Georgie Searle and Amy Harris ran in the Junior Girls' race and were placed very creditable 71st and 160th out of the 242 finishers.
