Sports News Second Half Autumn Term 2011
End of Term Boys' Sports report (16.12.11)
This term has seen many strong performances in football, rugby and basketball.
The under 13 football team started the term with several good performances including a win against Rydon (2 -1). Another entertaining match against steyning resulted in a 3-3 draw which was a positive result, considering the the size of the school. Tom J was the top midfielder during the games, showing himself as the playmaker of the team. Ben H played effectively as the Sion Goal Keeper and occasionally in the midfield. In both positions he was a key player showing lots of potential for the future. Well played to Ben I who became the teams top scorer showing his quality finishing skills. Also well done to Callum, who constantly broke the oppositions attack by reading the game effectively.
The Under 16 Rugby team completed their last School league with amazing results. The team started the season at the Southern Area Tournament and defeated their top two rivals; Angmering and St Andrews to win the Competition for the third time in five years. The team then went onto win the district league beating Durrington with an exhibition performance in the final. The team also won the league title in year 8 and year 10. The whole team deserve tremendous credit for their enthusiasm and commitment to the school. Special mention goes to Benj who has captained the team during the final year. Well played to everyone!
The basketball season is also underway with the year 7 and 8 team having an excellent result against Worthing High School winning 34-2. The year 9 team have had three good results against Shoreham, Angmering and Sir Robert Woodard Academy. The leagues continue in the new year and we look forward to some more good results.
Congratulations to Jack F in year 8 who has been selected for the Elite player group as part of the Harlequins Rugby School. He is the third Sion player to reach the Harlequins Schools of Rugby and the second to be selected for the Elite Player group. Well done.
