The spiritual welfare of all our pupils and staff is paramount to the establishment of Our Lady of Sion School. The school is a Catholic foundation with an ecumenical Christian approach. This approach is endorsed through the schools various Religious, Spiritual and Moral Welfare programmes. These include school and year group assemblies, Religious Education, Retreat Days of Reflection, Moral Education and a variety of extra curricula lunch and after school activities, especially those that centre on the spiritual use of the Chapel.

All pupils take RE in Years 7 - 9; pupils in Year 10 take GCSE Religious Studies, sitting the exam in the Spring term of Year 11.

Religious Education at Sion attempts to provide a sound environment in which pupils' own beliefs can be augmented, supported and nourished. We believe in helping each pupil reach their full potential. In reaching this full potential we aim to enable the pupils of this school to make a contribution to their school community and to wider communities in which they live. Through Religious Education at Our Lady of Sion School, we aim to provide knowledge, awareness and understanding and to teach against ignorance and prejudice which lead to discrimination.

Although Religious Education at Sion holds a predominantly Christian character, it in no way reflects negatively on those of other faiths, adopting the philosophy of the Sisters of Sion who see each individual as set on a path to God. Part of the role of Religious Education within the school is to enable the pupils to each find their role in the school and in wider life.

Religious Worship and the use of full school and year group Chapel assemblies are aimed at establishing, nurturing and re-affirming the schools beliefs, values and overall approach as echoed in it's moto ‘Consideration Always'.

The school takes an Ecumenical based Christian approach to its congregational worship in assemblies, and has strong links with many churches in the locality. The school acknowledges the rights and beliefs of other religions and promotes their awareness and understanding in a mood of tolerance, respect and acceptance through its Religious Education programme.

Religious and Moral education is aimed at developing and nurturing the spiritual and contemplative mind of our pupils, whilst also informing them of an understanding of those of differing faiths and cultural practices, (whilst not neglecting their own personal beliefs). The framework for this department is clearly one of nurturing unity and understanding in a mood of tolerance, respect and awareness, that can only be fostered through philosophical, ethical, spiritual and moral education. It is not aimed at indoctrination, and its aims are clearly to foster an atmosphere of tolerance, respect and understanding for our pupils in the world community, of those of differing religions, races and cultures.
