Junior School Parents' Association - Sion Friends' Association (SFA)
Our Lady of Sion Junior School has a very active Parents' Association which meets twice a term to discuss fund raising, the spending of those funds, and the planning of the Summer and Christmas Fairs. We also arrange the dates for other events which we organise, such as the Healthy Eating initiative, where we encourage the children to think about healthy lunch boxes or how to eat their "5 a day" portions of fruit and vegetables.
Recent purchases include a flat screen TV/DVD for the music room, a digital camera, and inflatable goals for football practice. We have funded a visit from a local Author and Illustrator, and we have contributed towards an educational event from Sussex Business Enterprise and the purchase of hooded tops for Year 6 leavers.
We continue to fund the book bags, medals for sports day and swimming, hats and caps for all the children, clay and glazes for pottery, Christmas presents for all the children and free ice creams at the end of term!
Our current goal is to try and get an Interactive computer whiteboard for every class.
We are always looking for Committee members or helpers, so please contact us, via the Junior School Secretary, if you would be interested in joining the SFA.
SFA Christmas Fair 2011
The Junior School Friends' Association held their Christmas Fair on Saturday 26th November, in the Senior School Hall. The Fair was a great success with a huge range of different stalls and games on offer. It was well attended by parents, pupils, family members and friends of the school, and raised a fantastic total of over £1,900 for the SFA funds. One of the highlights of the afternoon was Santa arriving on his motor-bike, aided by elf-for the-day, reception class teacher, Mrs Sarah Sutherland!
The Junior School 'Head for the Day' raffle, in which two children from the Junior School had the opportunity to win the chance to be Headmaster/Mistress for the day, raised £216 which will be donated to the new Children's Accident and Emergency Department at Worthing Hospital. The winners were Grace in Year 2 and Jake in Year 6. They will be taking on their role on Thursday 15th December, when they will be taking an Assembly, giving the Admissions Officer a tour of the Junior School, and meeting the Headmaster, Michael Scullion, in his office.
The Sion SFA Committee Members would like to say a big thanks you to everyone who helped out at the fair, and to all who came along to support the Fair.
