Music Festival Choir and Orchestra
MUSIC (Year 3-6)
Our very successful music department aims to develop aesthetic and creative ability in all pupils. It strives to develop pupils’ understanding, knowledge, skills and enjoyment of music through involvement in performing, composing and listening. Above all, pupils are encouraged to develop a love of music, and are encouraged to become actively involved in the musical life of the school.
Years 3 & 4
• Recorder: Introduced from Year 3 with teaching of simple notation and rhythm patterns.
• Singing: Pupils sing a repertoire of unison and simple two part songs and rounds. They are encouraged to improve their performance and develop good singing technique.
• Instrumental Lessons: Individual lessons offered on a variety of instruments. Peripatetic teachers visit the school on a weekly basis.
• Choir: Junior Choir. No audition is required.
• Orchestra: Available to pupils from Grade I ABRSM level or equivalent.
Years 5 & 6
• Recorder: An expanding repertoire is taught, covering a variety of musical styles.
• Singing: Pupils learn a repertoire of songs of increasing complexity from memory, demonstrating an awareness of audience and occasion.
• Instrumental Lessons: Individual lessons offered on a variety of instruments. Peripatetic teachers visit the school on a weekly basis.
• Choir: Festival Choir. No audition is required.
• Orchestra: Available to pupils from Grade I ABRSM level or equivalent.
• Vocal Group: Small auditioned group.
