Edexcel 8MU01(AS) 9MU01(A2)

Aims of the Advanced Music course:
Music aims to enrich and develop your skills by:

  • Extending knowledge and awareness of a wide range of music,
  • Widening your experience of performing both solo and with various groups,
  • Developing composition skills, both with and without technology.

Entry requirements
GCSE Music is desirable but not essential. More importantly, students should be working towards at least Grade 5 in their first instrument at the beginning of Year 12. By the end of the A2 course a minimum standard of Grade 6 is expected.

A Level Music can lead to:

  • Further study: A University degree course in an increasing number of subject areas, including Music, History of Music, Media Studies and Performing Arts. History, Art, Languages, Computing and Psychology are all popular combinations with Music, and many others are possible.
  • Career opportunities: Advanced Courses may lead to an exciting career in performing, recording, composing, music publishing, promotions and marketing, journalism, broadcasting, studio work including sound engineering, instrument making and repair, teaching, retail, arts administration, music therapy, etc.
  • Free travel opportunities exist for young performers - for example, performing on cruise ships or in embassies, schools and colleges abroad.
