Every pupil is encouraged to discover and enjoy Music. Music is offered as a subject at GCSE, AS and A Level, with Music Technology being offered at AS and A Level. There is a vibrant extra-curricular music programme, which features regular formal and informal concerts.

All pupils study Music in Year 7 - 9. Year 7 have one lesson per week, Year 8 and 9 pupils have two lessons per week. Pupils who opt to take GCSE Music have Two double lessons in Year 10 and 11. Year 12 AS-Level Music and Music Technology pupils have six lessons per week, and A2 pupils (Year 13) have seven lessons per week.

Music is a universal language and is studied in the context of social, historical and cultural factors, complementing the study of other subjects such as History, Geography and RE. As one of the Performing Arts, Music can also reinforce work undertaken in Art, Dance, Drama, and PE. As a Technology subject, music makes use of a range of ICT skills including sequencing, sampling and computer aided notation. Music is expressive and can be used to enhance language work; it can also, through graphic score and rhythm exercises illustrate Mathematical principles. The Music Department endeavours to incorporate as many enriching aspects into the lessons as possible.

Instrumental Lessons
Private instrumental lessons, with a team of excellent peripatetic staff, are available in a wide range of instruments and voice at extra cost. We have several instruments available for hire at an advantageous rate including ‘cellos, trumpets and flute. We are also currently able to offer a term's free loan of double bass, oboe or French Horn to anyone who would like to try one of these instruments. (Lessons still subject to normal fees.)
Any pupils/parents interested should contact Mrs. Whitchurch or Mrs. Daniels.

Extra-Curricular Activities
The Music Department runs a range of extra curricular groups and ensembles which all students, from Year 7 upwards, are welcome to attend. These include Choir, Orchestra, Vocal Group, Brass Ensemble and Flute Choir. A Wind/Jazz Band occasionally forms for special events and there are several rock bands.
Performance opportunities arise in Christmas and Spring Concerts/ Services, School Shows and the Leavers' Service at Arundel Cathedral. Less formally, the popular "Floor Spots" concerts held twice yearly give anyone a chance to "have a go".
