DT
All pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 study DT for at part of the academic year. Pupils can opt to take GCSE and A-Level DT.
Aims of the Department
To stimulate and or maintain student interest, enjoyment, curiosity and concern about, technological aspects of their environment, both local and otherwise in Design Technology .
To enable students to be familiar with the relevant body of knowledge, skills , principles and vocabulary, e.g. students should become competent and confident in:
conceiving, designing and producing a range of technological products ‘of good quality': evaluating and improving upon their own technological products and those designed by others.
To enable students to perceive Design Technology as a major cultural feature; and as part of a wider body of knowledge and skills, e.g. to be able to work both independently and co-operatively.
Year 7 Courses
Year 7 students spend two lessons per week, for approx. 15 weeks in Design & Technology. They spend the rest of the year in F&N.
Year 8 Courses
Yr 8 students are on a circus arrangement with Art, F&N and Drama. Students will spend two lessons per week in Technology for 3 modules of 8 weeks each. The three modules are graphic communication, resistant materials and CAD/CAM.
Year 9 Courses
Yr 9 students are again on a circus arrangement with Art, Drama and F&N. Students spend two lessons per week in Technology for 6 weeks initially and then a second block of 10 weeks approx. The two modules are metal work and resistant materials.
Year 10 and 11
Students are offered the option of studying resistant materials at GCSE. Yr 10 and 11 students spend 4 lessons a week in Technology.
Year 12 and 13
Any student who has studied GCSE technology can continue with A Level Product Design. Both AS and A2 are offered. Yr 12 students have 6 lessons per week and yr 13 students have 7 lessons per week.
Exam Results and Statistics
In 2011, 3 pupils took GCSE DT. There was a 100% pass rate at A-C grade; 33.3% achieved A/A* grades.
1 pupil took A-Level DT. The UCAS point score was 8.
In 2010, 4 pupils took GCSE DT. There was a 100% pass rate at A-C grade; 25% achieved A/A* grades.
2 pupils took A-Level DT. The pass rate at A-C grade was 100%; 50% at A/A* grades. The UCAS point score was 8.
In 2009 7 pupils took GCSE DT. the A-C paas rate was 100%
No studenst took A-Level DT in 2009
