Charity Fund-raising

Charity fund-raising is an integral part of life at Our Lady of Sion School, and is part of the school's ethos of 'Considertaion always'.

The Charity fund-raising team is headed by Mr. Tilley, Head of Sixth Form, and a team of Sixth Form Charity Prefects. Each form in the school has a Charity Representative, and these representatives decide which charities their year will support.

Charity Report Easter 2010
Following the achievements of the Autumn Term in which we raised over £1000, the Charity Team felt confident that this term would be another great success.
When the Earthquake struck Haiti on January 12th, it was impossible for us as a school to sit back and ignore its effects. Our ‘Hotdogs for Haiti’ lunch was very popular and a great opportunity to show how charitable Sion is. Together with 8 Delta’s collection which raised just under £80, and the profit from ‘Tuck Shop Tuesdays’, we raised over £370- a total to be proud of.
The compassionate response to the crisis in Haiti was wonderful but it’s also important to acknowledge ongoing internationa1problems like the War in Afghanistan. Over the past couple of weeks, pupils have brought in gifts to fill a number of shoeboxes which are to be collected later today (25th March)  and sent off to our Forces in Afghanistan. These gifts are a fantastic way for us at home to show that we really do appreciate the work that they are doing, so thank you very much for your help.
Finally, in aid of Sport Relief, a 4-a-side football tournament was held last week in which team members paid to participate. The competition was tight but in the end a team of Year 8 boys came out on top. Well done and thank you to everyone who got involved and of course to the winning team. Also, a special thanks must go to Charity Prefect, Matt Cousins, who went to great lengths to ensure its success.
Again, thank you all so much for your ongoing support. You have really impressed us with your compassion and generosity and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with you.
