Art Department

Art is taught to all pupils from years 7 to 9 and is a popular choice at GCSE. A broad-based course is offered with modules in Drawing, Painting, Textiles and Graphics. Art & Design is also offered at A/AS levels.
Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 follow an introductory Foundation Course in Art and Design.
GCSE Pupils follow the AQA Art & Design course (4200).
AS pupils follow the AQA Art & Design (2200) course.
A-Level pupils follow the AQA Art & Design (2200) course.

The Art Department at Our Lady of Sion endeavours to broaden the experience of pupils by seizing every opportunity to participate in exhibitions and competitions and have been very successful in focusing on the talent of the pupils. Pupils take an active part in school productions by painting scenery and backdrops and also making 3D props.
Investigating ART, CRAFT & DESIGN in the locality in a variety of genres, styles and traditions, form a range of historical, social and cultural contexts supported by visits to museums, galleries and sites or on the Internet.
Students engage confidently with Art, Craft and Design in the contemporary world and from different times and cultures. They become more independent in using the visual language to communicate their own ideas, feelings and meaning, which is very much a part of our world.

Timetable:
Year 7 - 2 periods a week all year.
Year 8 - 2 periods a week all year.
Year 9 - 2 periods a week, in rotating cycle with DT, Drama and F&N.
Year 10 & 11 (GCSE) have 4 periods a week each all year.
Year 12 & 13 (A Level) have 6 periods a week each all year.

Exam Results and Statistics
In 2011 6 pupils took GCSE Art. The A - C pass rate was 100%
In 2010 10 pupils took GCSE Art. The A - C pass rate was 60%
In 2009 7 pupils took GCSE Art. The A-C pass rate was 100%
In 2008 11 pupils took GCSE Art. The A - C pass rate was 90.9%
4 pupils took A-Level art. The pass rate was 100%, with 25% gaining A - B Grades
